2017 kicks off (or should I say “tips off”) with another Worthing AOK get together at Worthing High School… Sunday 19th February is the date when a ragtag collection of old gits of various degrees of decomposition lace up their boots in an attempt to survive 2 hours on a basketball court.
The stalwarts are returning in the form of me, Matt Horner, Steve Weller, Chris Lowrey, Graeme Lloyd, Ian Hooker, Graham Cornish and Steve Mansell (a possible surprise appearance might be made by Dave Hazelwood). Honourable AOK’ers will be Austin Bubb, Alan Elborough and Rob Kennedy. Unfortunately, several AOK veterans are unavailable- Richard Peck will be refereeing, Owen Peck will be recovering from a recent back operation (speedy recovery Sir), Chris Hodge will be recovering from a recent knee operation (speedy recovery Sir) and Lee Evans and Naoki Woodward can’t be bothered to travel from Luxembourg and Dubaii respectively to attend !
UPDATE –
Other than not being able to get the second basket down from the ceiling it was a great afternoon of basketball. Catching up with familiar faces, new friends made and a lot of laughs – what basketball is all about ! Healthy (not in every sense of the word) turn out with ex-AOK’ers, ex-Brighton and ex-St Andrews School guys lacing them up. Only a couple of injuries, which with a group of ageing (and let’s face it, mostly out of condition) guys that’s pretty good going. The standard of play was promising with thoughts of GB Masters in Manchester on the horizon… stamina and skill were in abundance (who am I kidding), be good to keep the momentum going with a monthly get together… and hopefully some more familiar faces will be able to make it !
